Danny Higginbotham

Currently, I am the Assistant Baseball Coach/Recruiting Coordinator at South Dakota State University and have been in this role since January of 2024.

Prior to SDSU, I spent four seasons at Des Moines Area CC. At DMACC, I ran the offense and worked with the catchers.

Prior to DMACC, I spent the last two seasons as the Volunteer Assistant at South Dakota State University. At SDSU, I worked with the hitters, catchers, and coordinated camps. 

Before my time at SDSU, I was an Assistant Coach at Iowa Central Community College. At ICCC, I worked with the catchers and hitters . During that season at ICCC, the Tritons went (38-16) and were Region 11 Champions. Before joining the ICCC staff, I spent two years at Arkansas Tech University as a Graduate Assistant. 

I spent five summers coaching in the Coastal Plain League. My last four were as Head Coach of the Martinsville Mustangs (2016, 2017) and the Macon Bacon (2018, 2019). My first summer, I was the Pitching Coach for the Morehead City Marlins (2015). During my tenure in the CPL, I mentored 18 players selected in the MLB Draft.

During my playing career, I caught at Arkansas Tech University from 2009-2011 where I earned Gulf South Conference Academic Honors in each of my three seasons. During my three years at ATU, we compiled a record of 88-65 and earned bids to the Gulf South Conference Tournament in 2010 and 2011. I started my college playing career at Howard College in Big Spring, TX in 2008.

I am originally from Bedford, Texas and reside in Brookings with my wife and daughter.
