Advanced Blocking Progression
(Off the Plate)
All Advanced Blocking Progression drills are done with pitches that are off the plate. This progression teaches you how to organize your body to get around the baseball in the most efficient way possible. For this blocking progression, I use the cues glove, knee, and block.
First, glove, is used to teach the action of leading with the glove to the desired blocking area.
Second, knee, is needed to drive the opposite knee toward the ground to get the body grounded. Without this, you could find yourself jumping and the ball can creep underneath.
Third, block, is used to get around the ball with your core to smother the baseball and finish the block with the angle back toward the middle of the plate.
