Point of Contact

Lower Half

The lower half of your body should continue to turn as you work toward the baseball. Position your body so that your body’s center of mass is behind the baseball. Your front leg should be firm into the ground with a stiff front leg to fully allow your hands to get to the desired location of the pitch. The quicker your back hip can work around the angle of your front leg, without your front shoulder flying out, the more bat speed you can create and you will find more consistent contact with the baseball.

Upper Half

Desiring to drive the baseball in front of the plate will allow for your bat speed to increase to its max velocity before contact. Launch Angle, which is the angle at which the ball comes off of your bat, can be a great result based indicator. Your goal should be to consistently hit the ball from a broad range 5° to 25° with more specified goal of 10° to 15°. This will produce consistent line drives and great place to start from. Depending on your exit velocity, if you deviate slightly under the ball at 25° to 30° you create the opportunity to drive the ball further distances.

Simply…

Drive the baseball in front of the plate where your bat speed is at its greatest velocity.
